Choreography for Kodachrome,
Film Performance, Super8mm, Chicago, 2005
Kodak stopped Kodachrome and soon it will be impossible to process it. I shot three rolls and sent them off for
chemical processing, but gave three separate return addresses. The addresses
were for CL
in Queens, XM in Providence, JS in Boston and AS in Chicago. I know that all
four recipients have Super 8mm projectors. In order for them to understand why they've received a roll
of film in the mail, they need to project it. Here, the act of projection
becomes one of decoding a secret message, an act of translaton that requires
three minutes of privacy with a small, flickery, purring machine. The
situation is designed to entertain the private moment that my avatar
gets to share with my friends. The films are sort of postcards like that.
